Accessibility statement

Last updated

In short: We build to WCAG 2.2 level AA. Contrast, structure and keyboard operation were verified by computation; nothing has been verified with a real screen reader yet, and this statement says so.

Template, not legal advice. This document shows the shape a compliant policy takes and marks every value that must be supplied with [square brackets]. Have it reviewed by someone qualified in your jurisdiction before publishing.

Our target

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, with one known exception recorded under "Known limitations" below.

What has been done

The following were designed in and verified during the build:

  • Every text and background pair in both light and dark appearance was measured against the WCAG contrast formula rather than judged by eye.
  • Every page has one and only one main heading, and heading levels are never skipped.
  • Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, and the focus indicator is never removed.
  • The main content of every page is marked as a landmark, so assistive technology can navigate to it directly.
  • Anchor targets clear the sticky header, so a focused element is never hidden behind it.
  • Motion respects the "reduce motion" system setting; no content depends on animation to be understood.
  • Colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
  • Every image carries alternative text, or is marked decorative where it adds nothing.

What has not been verified

Stating this plainly matters more than a confident claim:

  • The site has not been tested with a screen reader by a person who uses one.
  • It has not been tested with voice control or switch access.
  • No formal third-party accessibility audit has been carried out.
  • Contact form behaviour on submission has been verified structurally but not with assistive technology.

Known limitations

This site does not provide a "skip to content" link. A visitor navigating by keyboard alone therefore has to tab through the header navigation on each page before reaching the page content. WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.1 is not met for that reason. The main content of each page is still marked as a landmark, so screen-reader software can jump to it directly.

Demonstration photography carries descriptive alternative text written by the site builder rather than by the photographer.

The contact form is not connected to a backend in this build, so its error handling has not been exercised against real failures.
